These torpedo craft were designed and built in China. Unlike the HUCHUAN-class torpedo boats in Chinese service, these boats do not have hydrofoils fitted. By 1990, all four craft were in bad shape; however, in 1991-1992, they were overhauled at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
