The design is a modified Finnish TURSAS class. The Finnish-built patrol ship was ordered in October 1989. She is fitted as a flagship and command vessel for search-and-rescue and oil-spill cleanup operations.

The patrol ship is active and subordinated to the Swedish coast guard.
