The ship has two complete crews, which alternate on 14-day patrols. She is scheduled to serve until at least 2025. The ship was refitted in 1996/1997.
The CYGNUS is used for fisheries patrols on the Grand Banks as well as search-and-rescue operations. Two Fisheries and Oceans Canada inspectors are carried onboard during fisheries patrols.
