NAMPO class (Tanzania)

4 NAMPO-class FAST PATROL CRAFT (ex-North Korean NAMPO class)

These were Tanzanian variants of the North Korean NAMPO-class landing craft, without bow ramps and employed as patrol craft. They were very lightly armed.

HULL: At full load, these craft displaced 82 tons. They measured 90 ft 10 in (27.7 m) long, with 20-ft (6.1-m) beams and 5-ft 11-in (1.8-m) maximum drafts.
The total crew complement was19.

ENGINEERING: Four Type M50-F4 diesel engines produced 4,800 total bhp driving four shafts.
These craft could attain a top speed of 40 knots. At top speed the class could reach a maximum range of 375 nm (700 km).

ARMAMENT: The class was armed with two twin 14.5-mm machine guns.

SENSORS/ELECTRONICS: One Type 351 (Pot Head) surface search radar was installed.

Out of service.

North Korea transferred these four craft to Tanzania in 1979-1981. The North Korean Navy operates a large number of these craft in the amphibious assault role/raiding roles.

All Tanzanian units were inactive as of 1987.
