The X-Band Radar (XBR) is the primary system to detect, acquire and track ballistic missile targets for the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS), particularly in the Midcourse Defense Segment (MDS).
XBR is a ground-based, forward-deployed multifunction phased-array radar (MFAR) evolved from the Ground-Based Radar (GBR) family, including the GBR Prototype (GBR-P) and the Terminal High-Altitude Air Defense (THAAD) radar.
