The North Warning System, consisting of the AN/FPS-117 and AN/FPS-124 radars, replaced the Distant Early Warning (DEW) Line, a series of bomber warning radars located along Canada's northern border. A total of 15 AN/FPS-117 sets and 39 AN/FPS-124 sets replaced the DEW Line's 31 AN/FPS-19 and AN/FPS-30 radars.
