Cobra Dane is a U.S. large phased-array radar (LPAR) located at Eareckson Air Station on Shemya Island in the Alaskan Aleutians. Shemya is about 1,500 miles southwest of Anchorage, Alaska, at the westernmost tip of the Aleutians. The facility includes local, wide- and narrow-band communication systems and an operations and test complex. Shemya is closer to Russia than to mai nland Alaska.
Cobra Dane is used primarily for tracking objects in space and Russian missile test flights....
