The SSQ-937A is the F-size version of the AN/SSQ-36 bathythermograph (water-temperature profile) sonobuoy in U.S. service (see separate database entry). The SSQ-937A provides data on thermal conditions from the surface down to 1,000 feet (300 m), and descends to a depth of 1,400 feet (427 m). Opera tional life is limited to 5 minutes. The SSQ-937 assists the aircraft processor in analyzing data from other buoys by facilitating the prediction of sound propagation conditions.
