The DSTV 4M, known commercially as the TSM 8010, is a passive, A-size sonobuoy used by aircraft for submarine detection.
The sonobuoy is battery operated, the dry cells being activated by contact with sea water. After the sonobuoy is dropped into the water, the transmitting antenna and a stabilizing device pop out and remain at the surface while the hydrophone is released and sinks to a predetermined depth of either 65 ft (20 m) or 330 feet (100 m).
