The AN/SSQ-71 Air-Transportable Acoustic Communication (ATAC) sonobuoy provides a two-way communication link between aircraft and friendly submarines. It can be launched from surface ships, fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
The SSQ-71 borrows heavily from other Sparton sonobuoys. The antenna is derived from the SSQ-62, and the mechanical layout is based upon the SSQ-53A.
