The AN/SSQ-36 is an aircraft-launched expendable bathythermograph (AXBT) sonobuoy. The SSQ-36B can to go to greater depths and transmit information on more channels.
The SSQ-36 provides the water-temperature profile to assist the anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft processor in analyzing data from other buoys.
