The Type 2034 is the main short-range, side-scanning sonar used for sea bottom charting by the British Royal Navy Hydrographic Service.
The sonar is useful in locating sunken ships or airplanes or obstructions to sea channels, and for charting the underwater topography of an area. The transducers are housed in a towed body, currently the Mk 3.
