This is a hull-mounted, low-frequency, detection sonar for nuclear-propelled submarines. It is the first-generation standard British active and passive submarine bow sonar.
The sonar array consists of 24 flat panels carrying 56 transducers. It produces 24 active search beams. Normally the beam tilts down 20 degrees.
The system is in its third generation, from the 2001 to the Type 2020 to the Type 2074.
