The QBE-3 sonar is an all-but-obsolete passive range and bearing finder designed for small anti-submarine warfare craft. The sonar is hand-held in a retractable, "fish type" (torpedo-shaped) dome.
The QBE-3 was developed in the early 1940s from the QBE submarine sonar, which in turn was a converted JK-9 small ASW ship sonar. The QBE family of sonars was developed for Lend-Lease ships that were being transferred to Great Britain early in World War II.
