The DUBV 43 is an active, low-frequency (5 kHz), towed variable-depth sonar used for search and attack by French and Chinese anti-submarine destroyers.
The sonar is towed up to 825 feet (250 m) behind the ship. The towed body is 18 feet (550 cm) long, 5 feet (170 cm) wide and weighs 17 lbs (7.75 kg) submerged.
The body is stabilized for pitch, roll and maintaining depth. Objects can be detected by the sonar at distances up to 10.7 nm (12.4 mi; 20 km).
