The DE 1164 is an export variant of the AN/SQS-56 sonar. It consists of the DE 1160B (see separate database entry) hull-mounted sonar supplemented by an integrated variable-depth sonar (VDS) towed body.
The DE 1164 uses the hull-mounted and towed arrays to provide the same transmitting and receiving functions as the DE 1160. An on-ship keyboard console is used to enter the desired combination of functions and arrays.
