The AN/SQS-36 is a keel-mounted, medium-range surface ship scanning sonar intended for detection of submarines in both shallow and deep waters.
status
Initial operational capability (IOC) in 1964. Beginning in 1967, the SQS-36 was replaced in the U.S. Coast Guard HAMILTON-class cutters by a solid state version, the AN/SQS-38 (see separate database entry). No longer in production or service.
