The Tactical Towed Array Sonar (TACTAS) is a passive hydrophone array deployed from cruisers, destroyers and frigates. It was developed in the U.S. as a component subsystem of the AN/SQQ-89 surface anti-submarine warfare combat system. The sonar provides for long-range detection of submarines and i s specifically intended for use with the SH-60B LAMPS III ASW helicopter.
