These are active/passive detection, bow-mounted sonars deployed aboard some U.S. nuclear submarines. The BQQ-13 sonar system was fitted to STURGEON-class submarines (since stricken) as well as OHIO-class subs.
The sonar was also fitted in some LOS ANGELES-class submarines until the boats received the BQQ-5 multi-sonar suite. In that form, the BQS-13 was also known as the BQR-24.

In service. Development of the sonar began in 1970.
