The JLP-40 appears to be a Chinese adaptation of the Soviet Bar Lock tactical air defense radar. It consists of system transmitter/receivers, processor, displays and two antennas. It was designed to provide both early warning and target acquisition data and operates with height-finding radars, such as the JLG-43.

The radar's performance is said to emulate the Russian Bar Lock, Thin Skin and Side Net systems. The JLP-40 can reportedly detect a helicopter hovering 10 ft (3 m) off...
