The AN/ALQ-144 is a wide-spectrum, infrared countermeasures (IRCM) system. It is designed to protect helicopters from heat-seeking missiles and can be mounted on the top or bottom of the aircraft.
It is an omni-directional system consisting of a cylindrical ceramic emitter surrounded by a modulation system to confuse incoming missiles. Together with the ALQ-147, the ALQ-144 is part of the "Hot Brick" IRCM system.
