The AAQ-24(V) Nemesis Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) program was required by the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MoD) for protection of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters from advanced surface-to-air missiles (see separate record). The system provides an active defense against short-range, infrared-guided missiles. The AN/AAR-54(V) is a component of the AN/AAQ-24(V).
