Ptarmigan was a voice and data battlefield communication system designed for high survivability in the mobile combat area. When in service, it consisted of a network of 26 nodes based on vehicle-mounted digital switches connected by a radio relay. Ptarmigan supported cryptographically protected voi ces, telegraph, data and facsimile transmissions for mobile and static subscribers.
