The AN/APG-63 multi-mode radar was developed for the F-15 Eagle fighter with the goals of capability, reliability and maintainability.
The pulse-Doppler system can operate on several selectable frequencies.
It uses a planar array antenna and provides for either manual or automatic mode control, the latter intended to allow the pilot to keep his hands on the throttles and control stick while engaged in air-to-air combat.
