SS-5 Skean IRBM

The SS-5 Skean was an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) with a 1-megaton nuclear warhead. It was a single-stage, storable-liquid-propellant rocket. The former Soviet Union developed the weapon in 1961 and deployed it the following year.

Based on the P-12 missile, the R-12 Skean, as it was known in Soviet service, was larger and had twice the range of its predecessor. Western analysts estimated the Skean could deliver a 3,500-lb (1,590-kg) re-entry vehicle up to 2,200 nm...
