Hydrogen cyanide (AC) is a colorless vapor at normal temperatures with an odor of bitter almonds. It is typically used as a quick-acting casualty agent.
Blood agents are primarily absorbed through the respiratory system. They affect the enzyme cytochrome oxidase, preventing the normal use of oxygen by the body tissues. In effect, the victim suffocates even though the respiratory system appears to function normally. AC causes a stimulation of the breathing rate.
