Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum toxins (botox) are a group of seven related neurotoxins (types A-G) produced by the anaerobic bacterium called Clostridium botulinum; they can cause the disease botulism. They are typically formed in canned foods and subsequently ingested, although the spore form of the organism may occasionally gain access to the body through wounds or through the gastrointestinal tract before germinating and producing toxin.
