The Mk 48 is a heavy, wire-guided, long-range, anti-submarine and anti-surface ship torpedo. It is the principal weapon of U.S. attack submarines, being a successor to the Mk 37. The Mk 48 is generally considered the most advanced torpedo in Western naval inventories.
