This is a "medium"-weight, aircraft-launched, anti-submarine torpedo that can also be used as payload for the shipboard Malafon anti-submarine rocket system. Although the L4 is the same diameter (21 in/533 mm) as most Western heavy torpedoes, it is significantly lighter. A later variant -- the L4BS -- has been offered for use from small surface combatants.
