This 21-in (533-mm) torpedo is used in both surface ships and submarines.

The Seeal (German for "seal") was developed in parallel with the shorter, submarine-launched Seeschlange torpedo in the 1960s for the West German navy. The Seeal is launched by surface ships and submarines, the shorter Seeschlange is launched from submarines only.
