A submarine torpedo tube-launched mine, the SMDM-1 can be deployed in waters 13-328 ft (4-100 m) deep. The SMDM-2 can be deployed in waters 26-492 ft (8-150 m) deep.
The mine is propelled to a fixed location by a torpedo. The weapon is for use on submarines with 533-mm torpedo tubes.
In service.
Development began in the 1970s. The torpedo was offered for export in February 1993 at the IDEX-93 arms show in Abu Dhabi.
