The MShM is launched from a torpedo tube and deployed in water 197-984 ft (60-300 m) deep.
A rocket-driven payload is ejected from a cylindrical capsule. An acoustic targeting sensor covers an area of 882,999 sq m.

There have been conflicting accounts about when the MShM was first ready for service. The John Hopkins APL Technical Digest indicated that the MShM was still in development in 2000....
