The Mk 57 was an improved submarine-laid, moored U.S. mine for use against high-performance submarines. It had a fiberglass case (unlike the Mk 56, which had a non-magnetic, stainless steel case) and a magnetic firing mechanism.
No longer in service.
Initial operational capability was achieved in 1964.
