The M-08 was a moored, medium contact mine design dating to pre-World War I. It was spherical in shape and had contact detonators studded around the upper surface. Minimum distance between mines was 120 ft (36 m).
The mine was designed in 1908. According to past editions of Jane’s Underwater Warfare Systems, the M-08 was reported in service with Russia and several other navies. The M-08 was believed to be manufactured in North Korea and used in Iran (see “Notes”). Reported users,...
