The U.S. Navy's Trident I (C-4) submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) was the successor to the Poseidon (C-3) SLBM. The Trident had twice the yield and twice the accuracy of the Poseidon. (The original design criteria for the Trident was primarily to obtain an increase in range over the Poseidon while remaining compatible with existing Poseidon submarines.)
