The CBU-78/B Gator mine cluster bomb contains a mix of anti-tank and anti-personnel munitions in a Rockeye Mk 7 dispenser. The weapon is primarily used to disrupt or deny the use of specific terrain by enemy forces.
Arming begins with the opening of the dispenser, scattering 45 anti-tank and 15 anti-personnel mines over a wide area. A typical Gator minefield covers an area 2,130 ft (650 m) long and 660 ft (200 m) wide, containing 432 anti-tank and 132 anti-personnel mines.
