The SS-N-14 Silex is similar in concept to the French navy Malafon and the Australian navy Ikara. It is a surface-launched, subsonic, rocket-propelled ASW weapon that carries a homing torpedo or nuclear depth bomb out to the first sonar convergence zone.
The Silex is also believed to be able to serve in an anti-ship capacity by dropping a homing torpedo just outside defensive cover. There is no confirmation of this ability.
