The AS-6 Kingfish was a high-speed air-to-surface anti-ship missile. It was launched at 36,000 ft (11,000 m), climbed to cruise altitude -- possibly as high as 59,000 ft (18,000 m) -- and, in the terminal phase, dove steeply into the target. It carried either a conventional or a nuclear warhead and was reported to be relatively accurate.
The AS-6 was capable of land attack missions and could have been used in that role if appropriate maritime targets were not available.
