The French Super 530 series air-to-air missile (AAM) replaced the R530 in French service. Despite its designation, the Super 530 is not directly derived from the R530. The R530 originally had an interchangeable seeker head, with both an infrared and radar option. This was removed in the Super 530 series because the R550 Magic 2 (see separate database entry) was in operation by the time the Super 530 was deployed.
