The RIM-116 RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) fills the gap between the Phalanx close-in weapon system (CIWS) and long-range RIM-66/67 Standard or medium-range RIM-7 SeaSparrow/NATO SeaSparrow missile systems. The RAM provides a secondary battery for ships equipped with the AEGIS fire control and Standard missiles. For ships that do not have Standard missiles, the RIM-116 is the primary battery.
