The French Matra R550 Magic 1 is a highly maneuverable short-range, air-to-air-missile (AAM) with an infrared (IR) seeker. It has been widely exported and has seen combat in several parts of the world.

The missile is a thin cylinder a with rounded nose. It has two sets of cruciform foreplanes, front "cropped delta" non-steering fins, rear compound sweep, steerable cruciform "cropped delta" fins mounted on a slip ring and rotating freely.
