When in service, the French Masurca shipboard medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) resembled the U.S. Terrier SAM, though it entered service more than a decade later. It was fitted in only three ships.

The weapon was a fleet defense missile. Ships with the missile usually sailed in company with French aircraft carriers. Two different seeker versions of the Masurca were deployed. The Mod 2 was guided by radio command from the ship's DRBR 51 tracking and missile guidance radar...
