The HQ-9 (HongQi-9), also known as the FT-2000, is a new type of surface-to-air missile (SAM) designed to target airborne radars. Though physically resembling the Russian SA-10 Grumble platform, the weapon has strake wings running along its body.
Essentially this SAM is an enhancement to the S-300PMU1 Russian missile, transforming it into a surface-to-air anti-radiation missile (ARM), which can engage either single or multiple EM-radiating airborne targets in the 1-18 GHz band.
