The Sea Dart was a shipboard surface-to-air missile (SAM) system. It was once the principal area defense missile in the Royal Navy and had more combat use than any other naval SAM.
Development of the Sea Dart began in 1962 with the first production order in 1967. The design criteria emphasized quick reaction, long range and high lethality.
