The Sea Wolf short-range shipboard anti-missile missile is one of the few shipboard defense missiles to have been extensively used in combat.
Development of the Sea Wolf began in the late 1960s to provide a point defense system against supersonic missiles and aircraft. The missile had to have a very quick reaction time, high accuracy and relatively low system weight. The missile is a "round of ammunition," needing no onboard maintenance or testing.
