The SA-2 Guideline is a long-range, high-altitude, surface-to-air missile (SAM) in widespread use in Russia and other countries. Some versions, such as those that were in Soviet air defense service ( PVO-Strany), were deployed in semi-fixed sites. Six variants are known to exist, designated Mods 0 through 5. It was initially designed to defeat non-maneuvering targets, such as bombers.
