Type 90 main battle tank (Japan)

Japan began development of a new main battle tank (MBT) in 1977 to replace the Type 74 MBT, the primary tank in Japanese service. Although slightly smaller and lighter than most contemporary Western tank designs, the Type 90 has a 120-mm main gun and closely resembles the German Leopard 2 in appearance. It has been succeeded in production by the Type 10 MBT.
