The Type 61 main battle tank (MBT) was the first post-war Japanese-built tank and bore a close resemblance to the U.S. M47 Patton, especially in its turret, which had a long bustle extending from its upper half. The Type 61 was smaller and lighter than the M47 to suit the needs of Japanese troops and terrain.
