The TAM (Tanque Argentino Mediano) medium tank was developed and built for the Argentine army by Thyssen Henschel (now Rheinmetall Landsysteme) of Germany. At the same time, an infantry combat vehicle called the VCTP was also built by Thyssen Henschel to complement the TAM. The two vehicles share a number of characteristics, notably in the engine and hull of the vehicle, having both been based on the Marder infantry combat vehicle.
