Challenger 2 main battle tank

The Challenger 2 evolved from the Challenger 1 improvement program (CHIP) to become essentially a new tank.

The turret is a new design, incorporating second-generation Chobham armor (called Dorchester) with a significant increase in protection against both kinetic energy and chemical energy attacks. It is a composite armor thought to contain a mixture of tough ceramic tiles in a titanium alloy matrix, reinforced by metal plating.
